Catharinia, officially the Socialist Kingdom of Cathirinia, is a Micronesian island nation in the Pacific Ocean. Cathirinia occupies around a fourth of Catharinia Island and a few smaller offshore islands of the Catharinia Archipelago, bordering the People's Republic of Catharinia and the Democratic Republic Arcadia. In 1954 the colony, that had already lost its northern half through the independence of the People's Republic of Catharinia in 1940, became an independent republic. In 1961 the western and eastern parts of the republic seperated through a treaty and formed two new states: the Democratic Republic Arcadia and the Kingdom of Catharinia. Since octobre 2008, the country is officially a socialist kingdom and makes up part of the Catharinian Socialist Confederation.

For a long time, the Kingdom of Catharinia didn't have a real administration. All history was passed on by means of tales. Still, a major part of the inhabitants are natives. The earlier history of the Kingdom of Catharinia was made up from documents from the two other island nations.
[edit] Civil war
In 1968 the Kingdom of Catharinia invades Tana, a province on the border between the kingdom and the People's Republic of Catharinia which both countries see as their rightful property. The People's Republic sent out its Liberation Army to take back the territory of the Tanan tribes. They defeat the Royal Troops and the CPCa gave the order to advance through the kingdom. More than half of the Kingdom got occupied by the communist troops. The Democratic Republic of Arcadia was fearing for the souvereinity of the tribal nation and set up negotiations. The People's Republic got a territorial expansion, including the autonomous province of Tana. The Kingdom was placed under the watch of the two other island nations and needed to have a non-agressive regiment, meaning that its head of state could not undertake nationalist measures. The last demand was issued by means of replacing the old king by King Bou Bou.
In 1985 King Bou Bou died and got replaced by a socialist-minded succesor. The southern tribes fully supported the new king, but the northern territories feared to get annexated by the People's Republic. Two groups were formed: the loyalists who supported their king and his red course of action, and the republicans which wanted to join Arcadia to form a counterwait against the red state. A civil war broke out and the Red Army was led into the kingdom. The international community decided that there should come an international organisation and the ICSO was formed. The Red troops were recognized as International Peace Army by the organization and freed the provinces that had been occupied by the republicans. With the support of the ICSO the loyalist movement took the upper hand and the civil war was ended. The Red Army kept the northern part of the Kingdom occupied in order to maintain peace. As the current king fears a new rebellion, he keeps near to the guidance of the People's Republic. The Kingdom of Catharinia is could be seen as a puppet state of the People's Republic and plays a great deal in isolating the Democratic Republic of Arcadia. Since the end of the civil war and the establishment of the socialist government in the Kingdom of Catharinia, the conflict about Arcadia's most southern province came up again.

The Kingdom of Catharinia was for long a long time ruled by just a king. Before octobre 2008, this king wrote and spoke law without any form of democratic feedback. But as the Kingdom of Catharinia developped and it became caught between the influences of the other two island nations, a parliament and constitution were created. The Parliament of the Kingdom of Catharinia consists out of four politcal parties that have seats based on democratic voting every six years. This parliament writes and approves law proposals that can be made by anyone. The king can however send a law back to parliament, but he could invoke a national crisis by doing so. The largest party in parliament is the Socialist-democratic Party.
Since the country is a part of the Catharinian Socialist Confederation, the monarch as no longer the authority to veto against a law that was approved by the parliament. There also is a Greater Parliament for the entire confederation in which the parliament of the kingdom is represented.
